Massage Therapies Offered
I blend my own massage oils using 100% Organic Jojoba Oil with the addition of high-quality therapeutic essential oils.
Usually one or more of these techniques will be utilized depending on your needs and wishes. I attempt to make all my work gentle and non-invasive. Although pain can occur due to restrictions or an awakened sense of an area, it is never the point nor the goal of our sessions. I invite all of my clients to communicate areas of discomfort in an attempt to mitigate pain. Pain does not mean more effective, although sometimes it does mean we found an area that requires more attention. If you are looking for someone to "bring the hurt" and force change then I am not the therapist for you.
Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy®:
An external non-invasive therapy developed by Dr. Rosita Arvigo during her 30 year apprenticeship with Don Elijio Panti, a famous Mayan healer and shaman in Belize. It is a beautiful blend of both science and spirit medicine.
The internal organs and sacral area are gently guided back into proper position. For women a tipped or displaced uterus can lead to a host of issues including infertility, painful and/or erratic menses, prolapses of uterus, bladder, or rectum, cysts and fibroids, and pregnancy complications. In men and women congestion in the abdominal region can lead to incontinence, strain on the pelvic floor, digestive issues, nerve impulse/ circulation/ lymph obstruction, and decreased libido. In men it can also lead to enlarged prostate and erectile dysfunction. These techniques encourage proper alignment of organs and fluid flow through the abdominal region, the core of our being.
An Arvigo® session with me will include a lengthy 2-hour initial visit where we will go over your health history in detail. You will receive the foundational protocol for abdominal and sacral areas as well as instruction in home self-care. Each visit afterwards is 1+ hours, depending on what needs to be done. Additional treatments may be utilized such as castor oil packs and vaginal herbal steams for women.
Cranial Sacral Therapy:
Cranial Sacral is not a "massage". It is a subtle yet powerful system for helping your body return to balance and heal itself. The therapy relies on extremely light touch and focuses on the spinal column, bones of the head and cranium, and the sacrum at the base of your spine. It also utilizes easeful adjustments to fascia. Both a subtle physical therapy as well as an energetic therapy, Cranial Sacral Therapy requires the deep listening of the practitioner to evaluate the Cranial Sacral Rhythm of the client. This modality is performed with the client fully clothed and lying on the table. It can bring a deep sense of peace, relieve headaches, alleviate issues fron whiplash, placate central nervous system disorders, and help to remedy a myriad other health concerns. I often recommend an hour Cranial Sacral Therapy combined with a half-hour deep-relaxation massage.
Pre-Conception, Pregnancy & Postnatal Massage:
This gentle practice nurtures you, helps you to integrate your experience and prepares you for conception, birth, and motherhood. These techniques assist in building sensory awareness and the self-inquiry that will be needed as you move through these stages of a woman's life. As a prenatal yoga teacher for eight years and mother of twins, I can answer questions, give feedback, and support you from a place of knowledge and experience. Studies indicate that massage therapy performed during pregnancy can reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches and joint pains, and improve labor outcomes and newborn health. I am specially certified in Bodywork for Pre-natal, Birth and Post-natal wellness.
Manual Therapy for Chronic Pain and Injury:
Typically not a full-body session, but rather a site-specific session utilizing specialized techniques releasing pointed restrictions . It may incorporate the following:
Tui Na Chinese Medical Massage: The techniques in Tui Na have been used for 4000 years in China. This work utilizes the meridian system as well as hands-on techniques to break up stagnation, clear energy channels, and create connection within your whole body-mind-spirit.
Myofascial Release: Techniques releasing restrictions within the fascial system. Our fascia is the system of connective tissue that surrounds and incapsulates every part of our bodies, from our muscles cells, to each organ. Restrictions in this system can create pain in seemingly distant and disconnected places of our body.
Trigger Point Therapy: Trigger points are hypersensitive areas in fascia surrounding skeletal muscle that induce pain that radiates to other body parts. This therapy seeks out those points and utilizes consistent pressure and movement to release them.
Deep Tissue Massage: A variety of techniques that go slow and deep to effect changes in the skin, muscles, and fascia. Deep Tissue does not mean painful. The depth reached in the body is via slow sustained pressure or movement where the body allows access to its deeper layers.
Full-Body Deep-Relaxation Massage:
This massage allows for complete integration of your systems. It soothes the central nervous system and increases circulation. Touch brings awareness to each part of you allowing the brain to fully map each area of your body for increased functionality, decreased pain, and whole body wisdom/communication. I utilize a combination of Swedish, Lomi Lomi Massage, Tui Na and Thai: Rest deeply and ease your tension with this full-body fluid form of massage. Swedish techniques are mostly continous strokes along moving circulation and lymph in the direction of the heart. Lomi Lomi is a hawaiian-based practice that utilizes extra oil and long fluid dance-like strokes. Tui Na utilizes vibration, shaking, bouncing, and thumping to increase proprioceptive awareness and thai yoga massage adds stretches and mobilzations for full joint expression and fluidity.
Chi Nei Tsang Chinese Abdominal Massage:
This ancient system of healing works with releasing restrictions and adhesions within the viscera or organs of the abdominal cavity. Utilizing gentle but effective manual techniques, meridian point stimulation, sound, breath, and meditation we bring balance to these organs. This can help relieve digestive issues, female reproductive issues, impotency, breathing difficulties, reflux, and more.
